The Wellness initiative and CURED Foundation have joined in partnership to raise awareness for Eosinophilic Esophagitis by presenting our first affiliated philanthropic running event. A portion of the Proceeds from this race will go towards research and development to find a cure for children like Kaylee and Kennedy who 　suffer from this disease. These little girls were both diagnosed at a young age and despite their limitation, they don’t let this disease hold them back from living a fun and active life. Kaylee, the older sister,is an 8 year old bright, beautiful, and energetic young lady who shares a love for running. She was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune form of EoE 3 years ago. In Kaylee’s case, eosinaphils attack the tissue in her esophagus mistaking the tissue as a parasite. In normal cases the body mistakes food eaten as a parasite. Which results in her body attacking itself for no obvious reason. This causes very serious health problems including failure to gain weight, uncontrollable vomiting, severe stomach and throat pain, and many others. Kennedy, the younger sister, is a 4 year old spunky, outgoing, and loving little girl who has a gift of making others smile. She was just recently diagnosed with EoE in December of 2011. She has always had stomach issues, but as she grows older, her symptoms have gotten worse. Many kids with EoE can only eat 1 or 2 foods to survive. Most are put on complete protein shake diets and in some cases they are fed through feeding tubes to their stomach. One out of ever thousand children are effected with this disease and unfortunately a cure has not been discovered yet.
